Flyover

Freeway overpass (the flyover at 85 and 101), chain link fence, weeds, and commute traffic. Sometimes the picture looks better than the description.

Target

Opens November 15. The whole rest of the downtown project is completely screwed up, but Target financed their own rennovation. Geniuses.

Sailing

Went sailing Wednesday with some folks from work. Took a big catamaran named Serenity out of Sausalito for a little cruise in the bay. You can roughly identify where this picture was taken because Alcatraz lines up with the Golden Gate, and the edge of Treasure Island on the left lines up with downtown San Francisco.

Fall Colors

In the San Francisco bay area, there is at least one native species of plant that can be counted on to a brilliant display of fall colors: toxicodendron diversilobum.

High School Drivers

The bike path to the Mary Avenue bridge passes right by Homestead High, and I discovered this scene as I rode past it on Sunday.

I searched in vain for some sarcastic remark worthy of this photo, but came up short. It was quite a spectacle to behold, before someone sweeps it up.

Legalize Pot Pies

These do not actually contain pot. "Pot pie" refers to a savory pie with a bottom and top completely encased by flaky crusts and baked inside a pie tin. These are chicken pot pies.

About 40 hours later

Water levels in the creek didn't stay high for long.

October Rain

According to the newspapers (okay, the internet), yesterday's storm was the strongest in 47 years. Bicycling to work was really nice: the creek was full, things smelled nice, and there were no joggers, dogs or strollers on the bike path.

When you're a Jet you're a Jet all the way...

These guys were tearing around the neighborhood on Friday. Damn kids; sounded like they modified their muffler.

The indignity of commuting by bike

I see this every morning.

Favorite Public Places

This lovely view of Westwood looking north is from bridge connecting the two sides of the Westside Pavilion shopping mall. The bridge spans Westwood Boulevard, with Nordstrom on the east, and the movie theaters and bookstore on the west. Before the theaters had replaced shops, there was a McDonalds at the west end, and a small number of tables on the bridge. The seating at that McDonalds had the most scenic view of any I'd been to.

Iced Old Fashioned

The rare and elusive iced old-fashioned donut. Not to be confused with the more common glazed old-fashioned.

As the infamous donut gallery gets more entries, it is becoming more challenging to find donuts that I don't already have a picture of.

Bob's Donuts in Los Angeles continues to top my list of the best donut shops I've been to.

LA is Funny Pt. 2

Across the street from the Farmers Market on Fairfax, a building is covered with a large billboard-like advertisement for the InstituteforHumanContinuity.com; which in turn is defaced by graffiti to point to thisistheend.com. A domain lookup showed that both domains are registered to Sony Pictures, Inc.

LA is Funny Pt. 1

Walking down Third Street just west of Fairfax, I spotted this spray tan shop. $40 per session. Almost made me want to start competing in latin dance again.
