Arcade version 2

Different version of yesterday's shot. This one probably looks better in a thumbnail, but it conveys a rather different feeling. The previous shot shows more interplay between the bicycle and the sign, but in this one the sign is incidental.

Do not park bicycles in arcade.

An arcade is a succession of arches, supported by columns or piers, or a covered walk enclosed by a line of such arches on one or both sides.

Flower Bike

Seen at the edge of the Stanford campus. The first thing I noticed was the incongruous lock. Then I saw the flowers.

The small aperture effect taken to an almost comic extreme. This bench is on McKinley near Sunnyvale Avenue.

Brass fittings. I was swapping rims from one hub to another, and got as far as taking the first one apart. It's been like this for months.

Looking across the street while waiting outside The Counter on California Avenue in Palo Alto. The Counter serves scotch ale from Devil's Canyon. You can also order your burger there with blue cheese and sprouts.

The Olympus 50mm f/1.4 OM lens has not been manufactured in decades. There is a fairly steady supply of them on ebay, where they fetch between $70 and $100. I bet the market for them has gone up since they became popular fitted with an adapter on micro-four-thirds cameras. In this configuration the camera can only be used with stopped down metering and manual focus. Which, in some ways, is cool in itself. The adapter was about $30.

Rosey Rose

This shot was a learning experience for me. I don't take a lot of flower pictures. There is a delicate balance between to much and too little depth of field. Since I was stuck at home all day, I checked the light several times. You get very soft light when the sun goes behind a cloud; I opted for a little splash of direct sun to liven things up a bit.
