Astra Coffee Machine with Barefoot Coffee

"A smooth but intense authoritative timpanic symphony of espresso passion, an avalanche of almond, cashew nuttiness with a hint of dry cacao and wild berry. Thick heavy body with hints of tropical fruit. Best between 25-30 seconds at 2oz and around 200 F."

Luther Burbank Home & Garden

Home of the guy who saved the Irish (no, not St. Patrick). He invented the Russet Burbank potato, which was resistant to the potato blight that was rife in Ireland at the time. It is also the potato used in McDonald's fries.

Interior Decorating Ideas

Looking for something to adorn our foyer.

Okay, we don't really have a foyer. We're also not really looking at statuary.

Finally, rain.

I watched the radar map of the area yesterday, and I could see that the showers were grazing the south bay (but generally hitting the Santa Cruz area, as they usually do). By late last night there was a steady, albeit light, rain coming down in the south bay. Wet roads this morning, but not much more than a light mist on my bike ride to work today. There was water in Stevens Creek, as expected.

Court Street

Court Street used to be the unnamed alley in front of McCarthy's. That alley bordered the most ill-designed parking lot I'd ever seen, the one across the street from Woodstock's Pizza. That site is now home to a wine-tasting shop and a Pottery Barn, among other things. McCarthy's supposedly moved down to Marsh Street, because the current locale was no longer seedy enough. Thai Palace still appears to be in the original location.

Fremont Theater

We ate at Buona Tavola Saturday, which really looks like a hole in the wall from the outside. So I took a picture of the Fremont Theater next door instead.

The central coast (actually, Southern California more than them) had been having a heat wave for the past few days, and we caught the end of it over the weekend.

Second donut of 2009

Raised chocolate donut with sprinkles, from Krispy Kreme.

Just in case you were wondering about the recurring theme, I had only one resolution for the new year: I'm going to eat five dozen donuts in 2009. I believe this will be a smaller number than I ate in 2008. It comes out to five donuts per month, which is okay considering my favorite thing to do on a Sunday morning is to read the newspaper, drink coffee, and eat a donut. Okay, I like to do that on Saturdays too.... If I did this every Saturday and Sunday, that would be about 100 donuts for the year. Plus, we get donuts at work every other Friday, and sometimes in random meetings.

Fifty for the year will be the stretch goal.

Most flagrant use of photo editing software

This is a sculpture over by Mayfield Slough, where San Antonio Road hits the bay. I used editing software to remove the poles that are holding up the birds. I think the common term is "Photoshopped," but I use Gimp. I'm not sure why I did that -- I don't think "improves" the photo. Just for fun, I guess.
