Mine entrance

San Cristoban mine, Almaden Quicksilver Park. The mining of cinnabar in the Almaden area went on as late as the 1970s.

Hot daze

What does one do on the hottest day of the year, in the middle of the day? Go for a mountain bike ride in Almaden Quicksilver park! There was some shade, but a good portion of the ride was exposed.

Drop bars

The latest incarnation -- yet again -- of my ancient Miyata Triplecross hybrid. A new Tange Passage headset allowed me to move the brake cable hanger and use a nitto road stem, which allowed me to run the drop bars.

Handling is typical of a touring bike. Not particularly exciting, but manageable.

Actually a donut -- not really a cinnamon roll.

Stevens Creek Trail Bridge opens!

After about a year of construction, the bridge on the Stevens Creek trail over Moffett Boulevard opened last weekend. The extension of the trail from El Camino down to Sleeper Avenue also opened at the same time.

I love the new bridge. I go over it to and from work every day.

Raspberry Jelly

You can't tell from this picture what's inside. This could be a lemon jelly donut for all you know. That would be scandalous.

I seems as though it's been a very mild spring. Summer is just around the corner!

Glazed Cruller

Haven't posted one of these in a while. Krispy Kreme crullers are cake donuts rather than raised, as is the convention at most other donut shops.

Palo Alto Bowl

League night is Wednesdays. I saw a flyer for a five-week beginner class for $50, after which you also get a ball bag and custom-drilled ball.

Hoover Tower

Herbert Hoover was Stanford University's first student. This photo, which includes Hoover Tower, was taken from the Dish trail above Stanford. I think that the structure in the foreground is part of the Hetch Hetchy water delivery system of the San Francisco Water District.

Dish

Dish trail at Stanford. After nine years of living in the area I finally walked it. It's pretty popular. Nice views of the valley. Paved. 3.7 mile loop.

Many interesting buildings are lit up at night in downtown Sacramento.
