This is probably my favorite shot from our recent trip. Ironically, I almost threw it away because the original was pretty flat in terms of lighting and color. But after looking at it a second time, I decided that there was sufficient contrast to bring out some details.

My camera is set up to save both a jpeg version and a raw version of every shot. My usual approach is to look just at the jpegs, and only use the raw files if I think an image needs a lot of post processing, and I want a little more dynamic range than can normally be stored in a jpeg.

So I pulled up the raw file, did some dodging and burning, and pushed the "auto" button a few times.
